CNRI is a not-for-profit organization formed to undertake, foster, and promote research in the public interest. Activities center around strategic development of network-based information technologies, providing leadership and funding for information infrastructure research and development. CNRI engages in system and technology demonstration projects in order to further the design and implementation of selected infrastructure components for new computing- and communications-based applications. The following job opportunities are for highly skilled and highly motivated individuals to join our team and participate in Digital Object Architecture and Handle System research efforts. Research Programmer Digital Object Architecture and Handle System Location: Reston, Virginia CNRI is seeking Research Programmers to tackle key problems or needs identified by its development team. Successful applicants will become part of a team of research programmers designing and implementing experimental and prototype software in support of an open, distributed network infrastructure. Specific areas of work include information repositories, dynamic naming systems, intellectual property rights management, mobile computing platforms, mobile agents, and other next-generation Internet technologies. CNRI has ongoing projects in electronic medical records, digital fabrication, app development for mobile devices, next-generation networking, digital object repositories, and many other information management technologies. CNRI is seeking applicants with strong Java development skills to participate in a variety of development activities that contribute to one or more of these projects. Employees are assigned projects based on their respective interests and abilities. They are encouraged to try out their own solutions to the problems at hand. Creative, novel and independent thinking are desired and expected. The ideal candidate for a full time position would be a software developer with an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science. Knowledge of Java, Unix, object oriented design/programming and web technology is desired. Knowledge of Internet protocols, Python, C, XML, Android, distributed programming, and security a plus. Software/Web Developer Location: Reston, Virginia Candidates for this full time Software Developer position should be experienced Python programmers, comfortable with pair programming, using object-oriented databases, and web standards. The successful candidate will also have the following attributes: team player; passion for Python; value feedback and getting requirements directly from the customer; believe in being agile; embrace collaborative design and collective code ownership; have a mastery of HTML, DOM, Ajax, Unicode, HTTP and most especially Python; comfortable with test driven development; and can provision and manage a new Linux server. Experience in other web technologies is highly desired, as is experience with version control systems. The candidate must be comfortable working on a team and collaborating with other developers.
